ABSTRACT

The health situation resulting from COVID-19 is affecting lifestyles starting from the earliest stages of life. Therefore, the aim was to analyse primary schoolchildren's habitual video game consumption after the end of the state of alarm caused by COVID-19. To this end, a cross-sectional study comprising 125 primary schoolchildren was designed. To measure their video game consumption, the Questionnaire on video game consumption habits was used. The Student's t-test revealed significant differences in all dimensions in favour of the boys (p < .001, for all). Additionally, those aged 11-12 years yielded higher scores in the degree of attraction to video games (p < .05), level of concern about video games (p < .05), and rate of habitual video game consumption (p < .05). In conclusion, the results of this study are in line with scientific literature, indicating greater video game consumption in boys and older schoolchildren.

ABSTRACT

The health situation resulting from Covid-19 has led to a pedagogical transformation in the context of education, taking teaching from face-to-face to telematic. Therefore, the aim was to provide percentile values of the diagnostic questionnaire and teacher training for the incorporation of ICT in students with functional diversity considering gender, years of experience, educational stage and type of island. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was designed with a sample of 678 teachers. The questionnaire used was called Diagnosis and teacher training for the incorporation of ICT in students with functional diversity. The Hotelling test showed significant differences for the variables sex (F= 9.915;p < 0,001), years of experience (F= 5.318;p < 0,001), educational stage (F= 7.916;p < 0,001) and type of island (F= 5.812;p < 0,001). In conclusion, this study provides updated percentiles in a population of teachers in the Canary Islands regarding the diagnosis and training for the incorporation of ICT in students with functional diversity considering gender, years of experience, educational stage and type of island. © 2022 Authors. ABSTRACT

The aim was to determine the relationship between the perception of health, loneliness, happiness and body image according to the type of breakfast during the state of alarm decreed by the COVID-19 in primary schoolchildren. For this purpose, a descriptive cross-sectional study was designed with a sample of 116 Spanish schoolchildren. Perceptions of health, loneliness, happiness and body image were assessed using four items from the Health Behavior in School-aged Children questionnaire. The items referring to breakfast were extracted from the Mediterranean Diet Quality Index in children and adolescents questionnaire. After inferential analysis, it was observed that eating a cereal or derivative for breakfast was associated with a higher perception of health (OR = 1.45;p = 0.021), happiness (OR = 1.57;p = 0.002), body image (OR = 1.70;p = 0.006), and lower perception of loneliness (OR = 1.74;p = 0.002). This association was maintained after adjustment for body image with the exception of health perception (OR = 1.53, p = 0.156). In conclusion, eating a cereal or derivative for breakfast may be related to a higher perception of health, happiness, body image, and lower perception of loneliness in primary school children. © 2022, Federacion Extremena de Balonmano, University of Extremadura. ABSTRACT

Background: the migration from face-to-face to distance learning in education due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19 has led to the transformation of learning scenarios. Objective: to analyse the level of digital competence of teachers in the Canary Islands with regard to the application of ICT to cater for diversity according to the educational stage, ownership and type of educational centre. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was designed with a sample of 678 teachers. The questionnaire used is called Diagnosis and teacher training for the incorporation of ICT in pupils with functional diversity. Results and conclusions: I) primary and infant school teachers II) those who work in a private centre and, III) those who work in an Enclave Classroom obtain higher scores in ICT for attending to diversity. These results are of interest for the educational context as they serve to identify the current level and design improvement proposals to favour the teaching-learning process and achieve quality education for all pupils, regardless of the educational stage, ownership and type of educational centre. Personalised training pathways or SMOOCs (Social Massive Open Online Courses) can be of great help for teacher training and, therefore, higher academic achievement of the student. © 2022, AUFOP. ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has triggered a global epidemic emergency that poses several challenges for the development of Physical Education in the Primary Education stage. One of these challenges was the development of the school period from homes (Royal Decree 463/2020, of March 14). Faced with this scenario, the manuscript "Escape Room" Coronavirus COVID-19 "in Primary School students arose." Under an Action-Research (I-A) design, this escape room composed of six sessions was developed, the objective of which was to improve the nutritional habits and body competence for the health of the students. Due to spatial limitations, only the first session could be addressed. Therefore, this manuscript aims to develop the proposal for session II of the escape room in order to exemplify a health education with educational content in the physical field;levels of physical activity, heart rate, CORE and alignment of the human spine.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic and state violence converged in the U.S. in 2020 highlighting the uneven distribution of illness and death. In this article, we mobilize three bodies of literature-political ecologies of health and the body, Black geographies and racial capitalism, and Black feminist work on care-to understand the disproportionate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Asian people, and to imagine different, more just futures. We argue that these literatures center relationships, enabling an analysis that incorporates viruses and cellular processes, histories of racism, power differences, and political economy. We conclude by taking inspiration from the uprisings and Black feminism to envision a more caring future that nurtures relationships.

ABSTRACT

The current health situation resulting from COVID-19 may be having an impact on anxiety levels in the early stages of life. Therefore, the aim was to analyse anxiety levels in primary school children in the state of alarm generated by COVID-19. For this purpose, a cross-sectional study of 116 primary schoolchildren was designed. The Spanish adaptation of the Spence Children Anxiety Scale (SCAS) was used to measure anxiety. We found a median effect size of sex on the fear dimension, generalised anxiety disorder and global anxiety index, and a median effect of age on the separation anxiety disorder and social phobia dimensions (p < .05). In conclusion, the results of this study are in line with the scientific literature, which suggests greater anxiety in females and younger schoolchildren.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Breakfast arouses considerable scientific interest as a potential lifestyle parameter. Objective: Analyze the relationship between anxiety levels and breakfast type in schoolchildren. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted of 116 schoolchildren from the Isle of Fuerteventura. Anxiety was evaluated with the Spence Children Anxiety Scale (SCAS) questionnaire. Items about breakfast were taken from the KIDMED Test of Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet. Statistical processing was based on one way ANOVA and the multivariate logistic regression test. Results: Intake of a cereal is associated to a lesser probability of developing agoraphobia and panic attacks (OR = 1.14, p < 0.01), social phobia (OR = 0.71, p < 0.05), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OR = 1.22, p < 0.05) and overall anxiety index (OR = 1.05, p < 0.05). On the other hand, not having pastry for breakfast habitually was associated to a lesser probability of developing obsessive-compulsive disorder (OR = 1.13;p < 0.05). Conclusions: Optimum breakfast quality, such as eating healthy cereals and not eating industrial pastries, is associated to lower levels of anxiety in schoolchildren during the state of alarm decreed in Spain due to the COVID-19 pandemic. © 2021, Editorial Ciencias Medicas.
